Midsummer.

It's official - Midsummer.  There's something about August 1st that feels like the turn of the wheel, even moreso than December 31.  Maybe it's because I have kids and we live by the school calendar.  A lot of projects are wrapped up for now, and it is time to switch some hats.  I still have three heads (or four or five), but this time it's "playdate supervisor," "declutterer / garage sale professional," "curator," and "writer."  I have some grant writing to do, and some contracts to complete (oooh big surprise - I'll tell you later!).

I'm very excited about curator.  I spoke to another artist/curator today and she just rejuvenated me like you wouldn't imagine.  We talked about how the pieces I've found all work together so far, and the common theme through them all.  It's more than just 'prairie' though.  There's something deeper that connects the pieces.  It's hard to explain without giving too much away.  But let me tell you that the vision I have for the exhibition is really coming together.  I can hardly wait to share it with you.

That brings me to my next decision.  This show is very special to me.  Many of the artists are from out of this city but all reside on the prairies (AB, SK, MB).  The show will be exhibited in the dead of winter, so I would guess that many of the artists will not be able to attend.  I could be wrong.  But still - there's something lost about having a beautiful display and then it's over and it's gone and done.  I am understanding the value of making some sort of publication to serve as a keepsake.  Perhaps it will be hard copy.  Perhaps an online review.  We shall see.  There's so much to learn.  I'm happy to have potentially found a mentor for this part of it all.

As for my art, the next show is for the month of December at the Centre Galleries once again.  That's right!  Nothing until December.  It will be my fifth annual.  GO figure.  I am still busy with commissions, trying to keep the SCC Boutique stocked.  I have several contracts for teaching.  As for all the writing, I can work on that at the kitchen table while the house is under construction and the kids are enjoying summer.  I have yet to enjoy summer, but that will come later this month with a trek to my mom's.  It feels like forever since we've been back to Jackfish Lake.

Okay.  So here's why I'm really blogging today.  I have an announcement to make.  I now have art in the MacKenzie Art Gallery retail shop in Regina, SK.  !  That's right!  Snowglobes and all. : )

The gallery shop manager took in three mid / large threadpaintings, a good selection of fabric postcards, and a box full of snow globes!  I have no idea if the globes are out yet or if they are waiting for the holiday shoppers.  I figured while I was there in person, I might as well bring them.  I don't like to ship water in December.  : )  I don't know if you've ever seen the Mackenzie in Regina.  It's currently the biggest gallery in the province - three floors, and a huge, bright shop near the entrance.  It's sunning, and full of beautiful things.  I wish I had taken photos.  I've searched online to show you, with no luck.

So!
This and a new studio in the works.  It definitely feels like a new beginning of a new year.  : )

I hope your summer is going great!  THANK YOU for all your support.  Enjoy August.  Enjoy the heat.  Enjoy the adventures.  Enjoy the first harvest.  It's been an awesome one!  yum yum yum...

: )

Sounds like you are going to be really busy. Hope you can accomplish all that you want to do. I'm not the only one that loves your art.
Hugs

A suggestion you may have already considered. Have someone with a digital movie camera talk to some of the viewers and intersperse with still shots of the pieces being shown. This could then be put on dvds and sent to those artists who can not attend and/or sold to attendees. I do not believe it costs very much - my daughter-in-law's brother did it for their wedding. Of course, if you have a professional do it, it would cost more.

Gorgeous photo and beautiful stitchery. I would purchase a hard copy catalogue of your exhibition. I know something online would be cheaper but you can not beat a book and if it is online then it is easily forgotten! Pleased that you are so busy - it means you are successful! Enjoy your hike. xx

Congratulations on all your endeavours! I just finished one of your postcards from the kit.
Just a question. The double dided sit if interfacing, I'm wondering where you find it and if you use that in your other pieces.
Thanks!

Hi Holly,
Flexifirm double sided from Fabricland. No I don't use it for threadpainting though. :)
