This week I went to the Bridge City NeedleArts Guild meeting!  They only meet once per month, and they are under the unbrella of the Embroiderers Association of Canada.  (Check out their Artists' Trading Card Challenge!)  Let me just say this about the range and beauty of talents in that room: "WOW".  They gave everyone a little mystery challenge project to work on for second half of the meeting.  I didn't know I would be getting this, so I took it home to my needle & thread to work on it.  It's a canvas work project that will become a three dimensional tree ornament.

Counting!  Patterns!  I know.. I never do this kind of stuff, but it was great to figure it out.  : )  The Blanket Stitch makes a nice border.  I used crappy pearl-type craft cotton from Michael's for the blanket stitches.  It came in a kid's kit and I thought it would look nice because it's variegated.  However, it quickly went fuzzy and then fell apart.  lol  So for the square blocks, I used three strands of gorgeous hand dyed DMC from The Rainbow Girl.  Ooooh!  Aaaah!

Satin stitches are placed closely and make good fillers.  I would use this stitch to create leaves and petals of all shapes and colors!  And seriously - I love using variegated anything.  ; )  In the end, I picked up the pink again and put in some french knots that weren't in the pattern (wrapped twice).  I love the way this is looking!

I am really enjoying this!  Good threads definitely make better stitches than crappy threads, but I knew that.  I have NO idea how to work the remaining hearts with their overlapping stitches.  I'll have to experiment some more.  That's all for now folks.  Thanks for stopping by!
