What I'm Working On Wednesdays

I have two big deadlines on Friday so I've decided to finish them today so I can take all of Thursday off.  Will I be successful at that?  So far so good.  The big Bessborough Hotel's 75th Anniversary event is this weekend.  The Bessborough is our "castle on the river".  Most of our big out door festivals through the summer are in the surrounding parks.  And the loveliest skating rink is right beside it complete with a firepit.  Friday night, by invitation only, one of my quilts will be in a live auction along with 29 other items.  I can't wait to hear what it fetches!  Procedes go toward Habitat for Humanity, with a portion to the artists involved.  Isn't that great to have a quilt in the same category as "art"?  Sweet.  So I've got the hanging sleeve and dowel ready.

It needs to be delivered Friday morning.  How did it get accepted?  There was a call for entries, and I took a chance.  I take a lot of chances.  Either nothing happens, or great things happen.  So why not!?  There's nothing to lose is there?

I also took a chance and submitted some photos, though I'm not a professional photographer.  I said I would make greeting cards with mounted prints.  They were accepted!  They will be at the Bessborough's public silent auction on Sunday.  I just finished them this morning.  Now I need to tie them with a ribbon and make them look pretty.

the locals affectionately call her The Bess ('bez')

I'm pretty proud of these.  Everyone takes pictures of the hotel from far away, on the other side of the river.  EVERYONE.  Sometimes there are different seasons, or angles, or skies, but they are all very similar.  People have been doing that for YEARS!  (75 to be exact.)  So I crossed the South Saskatchewan river and got up close and personal.  The above shot was taken from the red double-decker bus that sells the best summer lemonade in town!  The pic below is my favorite.  I will quilt this some day!

I have two pack of each photo, with 4 cards per package in the silent auction.  Half of the proceedes go to Habitat for Humanity if you want to go check it out.  If you aren't familiar with that charity, they are the volunteers who build homes for those in need.

The other "big Friday deadline" is for a proposal to Quilting Arts Magazine.  They've put out a call for submissions for the April/May 2011 issue which will focus on fibre art LANDSCAPES.  How can I not do this one!?  Even if I don't get accepted, I would never forgive myself for not trying.  Nothing ventured, nothing gained.  Right?  With that I have no photos.  But I do want to show off this morning's sunrise!  Have a great day.

Monika, do you know what an inspiration you are? I'm serious, I love your attitude as much as your talent and heart.

As another Canadian friend of mine always says,
Stay Inspired!

8:37?!?! Wow, what latitude are you? Love the sunrise. Your summer days must last forever! Love the pictures too! BTW, we're just above 45 N. (yes, I'm a total geek)

Those cards are fabulous! Way to go finding some viewpoints people don't often think to photograph.

Thanks for linking up with WIP Wednesday! Have a productive week!
