Visual Story Telling / Public Art

It's up!  It's all up!  In total, there were four afternoons at Saskatoon Open Door Society with two groups of newcomers at the Women's Support Programs ran by Emily for immigrant women.  With the help of translators, the women told their stories with cloth, paper, scissors, embellishments and even a few plants.

I framed all the pieces in large poster frames and hung them in the gallery space last Sunday.  Here is the backstory. This sign hangs in the gallery space along with all the collages.

This was a simple project to do, and yet it has such a profound impact for the clients as well as the public.  A Social Work friend of mine in another province asked if she could do this idea for her clients.  Oh my gosh - YES PLEASE.  DO it, do it, do it!

In total, I framed up 18 pieces of art in large poster frames.  Each women's first name (only) is beside their piece as well.  If you happen to be in The Centre, I hope you'll take a look and read the texts as well.  I was lucky to have access to a good public space at no fee to non-profits to put this on display, which makes it even more do-able.  I must say thank you to The Centre East Galleries for providing our community with such a fantastic opportunity.  It means so much to us all.
