I have exciting news! I'm in, I'm in, and I'm in! The Focus on Fibre Art Association's Prairie themed biennial show gave me the thumbs up - on THREE pieces of art. ! 3. Wow. I was not expecting that. One is my 'trademark' free machine and hand embellished prairie landscape. It's pretty recognizable as my work. Two are completely hand stitched pieces, and perhaps a little more abstract. All will be in the same category. It will be interesting to see how they fare against each other.
This means I am definitely going to be in Edmonton to see the show in
May. I can't wait to meet some of the other artists! It will feel like a party, I'm sure. It looks like I am booked to teach a class there, so that is
taken care of. (Thank you!). While I'm there, I hope to scout out
some more pieces for the show I'm curating. OH, OH - OH have I landed some BEAUTIES!! I'm such a sap. I know I'm going to cry when it all comes together. There are a couple images I was sent that get me every time. I wrote to one of the artists and said, 'if you show up to the opening, you better bring me a box of tissues'. : ) I really never expected this experience to have such a huge emotional effect on me. My biggest hope for this show is that it moves people. So far, so good I think. There is a sense of feminity for sure that runs through the whole show. I will certainly share images but not until January - which is so far away. Still, lots to do! I spent hours and hours responding to entrants over the weekend. (If I missed anyone, send me a quick email!)
On that note, I hope you understand that I'll be putting Saturday Stitches on hold for a wee bit. There are some big projects coming my way that have really got me daydreaming. Projects like... an exciting product project from a sponsor, & a wedding dress embellishment commission!! omg. Gotta love learning curves! Lots to blog about this year. Lots of creativity to dream up...
It's funny how daydreaming takes up so much time.
Talks soon,
Enjoy spring.
Monika.
