Sunday Snapshots

It's me!  I know... I've been gone so long.  The five of us headed to Jackfish Lake for a good long week of summer fun together.  This was our FIRST real family vacation ever.  Sad huh?  15 years as a family...  We've done little trips here and there, but this was a REAL vacation together.  I think I likely took a few thousand photos.  I'm going a little nuts waiting for September so that I can have some creative time to myself again.  (!!)  In the mean time, I certainly enjoyed the the weather and the scenery.  LOTS of drama and inspiration : )

storm rolls in after a hot day of swimming

The road off the highway that led to Meota was full of caterpillars.  They all were making their way directly across the road.  It was SO weird!  No diagonal crawlers, and none heading down the road itself.  They were all going straight across.  Of course my kids were like, "MOM!  Don't kill any of them!"  So I was a good mom, and I drove swerving all over the road to avoid them.  haha  We squealed loudly every time we saw one.  : )  It was like a silly scene from a movie.  All the kids screamed, "AAAAH!" and then I swerve one way.  Then again, "AAAAH!" and I swerve the other.  lol  It went on for a long, long time.

None were harmed in the making of this vacation.

Each evening had beautiful colors.  This is the view from my mom's home the first night.

sunset at Jackfish Lake, SK

I love the way the bottoms of the clouds catch the color of the sun.  Check out the next one!  It's quite the build up!

Meota Beach - clouds creeping in

I love that I caught the birds in that last photo.  This next photo is crazy!  It's still strikes me as unreal.  Clouds like these usually hold some insane storms.  It's a clear sign to GET OFF THE WATER.  ; )

Spooky.  One last sky pic... we were sitting in the bush behind the camper cooking over the fire when I saw the leaves begin to glow.  I grabbed my camera and mad a dash for the road.  Here's the view from our camping spot.

We swam a lot, and fished a lot.  We had a lot of fires and drank a lot of beer.  The moon was full and there weren't many mosquitoes at all.  The best thing was that the bushes were just loaded with berries.  We even managed a couple bowlfuls of Saskatoons for breakfast with milk and sugar.  mmmm...  : )  There were berries everywhere - red, orange, white, black, purple...  I'll save those pics for another day. ; )

my boy and his wild raspberries from the bush

And yes - I also have hundreds of field photos and ditch photos as well.  IT SURE WAS PRETTY!

(gasp!)  here comes fall...

Happy Sunday to you!!

Hooray! So glad you took the family vacation and hopefully it will be the first of many. Of course, your pictures are fabulous. I can just picture all sorts of new art pieces coming from all the inspiration!

It's so fun to get out on vacation with your family. I've been enjoying my little trips with my sons who are both away from home now. My daughter will be home at Xmas from Korea for about a week and we are looking forward to lots of family time.
The caterpillar thing is funny. I'm sure there was some scientific reason.
And finally, what pictures! Wow! You will have lots to work with!
