Sunday Snapshots

Traditions...

Checking out the beautiful German Christmas store that my cousins put together!   Hundreds of Playmobil pieces.

We bought Oma some Liebkuchen, Spekulatius, and other yummy spicy German gingerbreads.  Yes - Marzipan too.  It was St. Nikolaus day and the tradition is to leave shoes outside the night before.  If you've been 'good' you get a treat.  If you made the naughty list you get a lump of coal.

Saying hello to Cupid, a GORGEOUS 13 yr old Reindeer.

Back at home in the afternoon (already getting dark out!) we make some cookies.  It's my favorite recipe from an old Sesame Street book, directly from Cookie Monster himself.  ; )

And here is the batch we made for hanging on the tree.  We make sun cookies every year to celebrate the Winter Solstice.  It's the longest night of the year, and we'll see the daylight hours grow longer again soon after.

sun - a reason to celebrate

After all that we celebrate a bit of Christmas too.  Lots of traditions in our house! : )

Happy Sunday,

It looks like a wonderful day but I'd be very afraid to leave my shoes outside. I'd bet they would be overflowing with coal when I checked!!!! :)

It's nice to be able to mix it up and make your own family traditions.
I remember making cookies for the tree one year. With my three they wouldn't have lasted long!
Today, I baked gingerbread cookies that I'm hoping to frost tomorrow.

The agreement Christmas display looks beautiful.
We celebrated the solstice by having my in laws for midday dinner. Then hubby and I went for a walk on the snowshoes.
Happy Solstice to you and Merry Christmas!
