Uncommon Fibre Art Supplies - giveaway

* * * This contest is now over.  Congrats to the winner! * * *

A while back, I posted about the re-opening of MeinkeToy.  Under new management, they are an online fibre art supply store based in Florida, USA.  I approached Eleanor about a give-away to celebrate, and she said yes!  In the mean time, they've sent me some supplies to play around with.  I told Eleanor I would make some art first to show off their products, however, time keeps on slipping away from me and I've been so busy with other things.  I did begin a little landscape, and I have plans to stitch up some more pretties.  However, in the mean time, I happened win $25 from their site through a little contest they held in conjunction with Lapel Stick.  Isn't that cool!?  So I happily ordered more and more pretties.  They just arrived.  Come see what I have!

: )  They say fiber, we say fibre.  They say gray, we say grey.

Oooh the gorgeous autumn colors!!!  I could eat that for breakfast, lunch and supper.  Hand dyed scrim/cheese cloth, assorted yarns & fibres for stitching, and all that recycled silk sari ribbon!  Oh I want to stitch fall leaves with those.  What a great idea to recycle this!  It's very inexpensive.

Look at this...

Isn't that pretty!?  I could mount it on my wall as is I think!  I love the layers of fibres.  Incredibly gorgeous. I also finally came accross some silk resist.  I want to try painting my own backgrounds to do stitch some local plants onto.

Finally, here's a closer shot at those yummy yarns.  These will be great for couching onto postcards.

MeinkeToy can be found online HERE if you want to go look at more.  Let's do this now.  I have a $25 gift voucher up for grabs for one lucky commenter!  I know... more contests.  (Is that problem?)  There are no hoops to jump.  Just give my some ideas as to your favorite fibre art supplies.  Any materials, dyes, or strange and wonderful things you love to use?  The winner will be drawn at random and announced on Friday.  One entry/comment per person please, and YES - anyone from anywhere can enter.

p.s. the Meinke Toy facebook page is here.  It's a good way to keep in touch.  Thank you MeinkeToy!  Happy almost-autumn everyone and happy stitching.

I love to work with wool and fibers. Dye is always a nice surprise, well usually. I have been making pieces of felt jewelry that I want to start embroidering with special threads. The plain pieces I am making are looking so good already

Has to be novelty yarns. There are so many out there and they can be used in so many wonderful ways. Thanks for a great giveaway. I'm clicking on the link to see what other goodies Meinke Toys has.

I've recently become hooked on dyeing! I'd love to try dyeing some different fibres/fabrics!

Oh yea! Those look amazing!! Perfect timing! I just got a couching foot for my machine, and have been wondering where to get small bits of yarn/fiber to use (without having to buys a whole skein. I'll have to shop there even if I don't win! Thanks for the chance! (I'll probably be asking you for help couching soon though LOL).

I'm trying to stretch and use a variety of things. Different yarns and ribbons are great fun, I also like Angelina Fibers and organza.

Hi Monika, just came across your wonderful site through The Needle and Thread Network. I'm only a few hours south of you near Regina. The MeinkeToy site looks very neat. Thanks for the link. Different kinds of threads are on the top of my list of favourite fibre art supplies.

Hey from PEI ! I'm new to fibre arts and still trying to find my place. Thanks for the great link! Looks like a great place to explore and shop! The weirdest thing I ever used was the cap from a water bottle on a felted piece I was doing.

I love the nobbly yarns that are multicolored. Pick out what you need and stitch it on. SOON! Fall is arriving and soon I can sew again so some new supplies would be great.

I love novelty yarns too, for textures. I really can't think of anything weird that I use. My supplies are pretty simple. I think im going to have to go check them out though.
I can't wait to see what you will do with some of those fibers. And the painting on silk and layering of natural items sounds interesting.

HI MOnica,
Thanks for the chance to win in Canada too, eh?
I am trying to find where I fit into the whole fibre arena as well. I do love the thread and couching materials you showed though.

In organizing my 'stuff', I made a whole shelf for ribbons, yarns, threads, fibres, etc. Yummy stuff! I like the idea of dyeing my own ribbon and cheese cloth and fabric bits for art. Super give away! Thanks

It's not that I ever get tired of wool, but the occasional sensory immersion into glorious coloured silk makes me very very happy. Combining the two textures in beautiful ways is my dream. - Margaret

Hi Monika! I love to order my threads and ribbons from Dharma Trading Co. Yes, that is correct. I dye them all my way and love them to death. But I am off to check out Meinke Toy for fiber supplies. Thanks for suggesting it...

I love beads the best, but I have had a lot of fun working with hand dyed and painted fabrics, cheesecloth and painted and heated tyvek. Dahn is my mentor.

Ooo I love the selection you got! I have experimented with combining paper with fabrics and also the use of found objects, either natural or man-made.

I've ordered from meinike for years and love that they've expanded their line. I use tons of different products but use a LOT of bondaweb.

Hi monika. As you know, i am a traditionally a very "safe" quilter/sewer and have not ventured very far out there with a variety of fabrics, yarns, etc, but I have learned a LOT this past year following your blog (and a few others0 and have started looking around the house and yard with fresh eyes and asking myself, "now, what else can i add???". it's been fun. Thanks for the opoprtunity to expand my experiences.

Monika, I'm an embellishment nut, its hard to pin point my favorite, but it would have to be silk threads and combinations of threads in one skein. I took a look at Mienke Toy Fiber Art Supplies and wow! I'm impressed with the selection!
Thanks for the chance to win, I'd love it like crazy!
Cheers, Carli

Thanks for the chance, Monika!

Right now I'm loving disperse dyes applied with resists (as per my blog posts this week). It produces such lovely, glossy colour.

Well, you know that I love vintage things, such as old embroideries and doilies. I also have quite a button collection and trims. Maybe I should start adding them to my quilt projects... Thanks for the giveaway.

Oh, I just want to run my fingers through all those fabulous textures! Just a year into art quilting and loving it....patchwork seems to be a distant memory.

Silk noil is one of my favourite textural

fibers. I imagine those renegade silkworms thread-bombing twigs and leaves on a mulberry bush/tree instead of spinning their own tomb of one singular thread.
