4x6" postcards mailed to me, which means I have mailed away just as many... |
I have even more than that. I keep them in a shoe box and tote them around for show & tell. A few personal ones are up on my wall, and a couple more are framed in a shadow box. NEVER ONCE has a postcard ever gone missing or arrive destroyed - at least not in any swap I've been part of.
So mail them! I dare ya! : ) Here are the cards that the women made this morning at Creative House. It was a small group and we had a great time. I picked the theme of autumn and away they went. Each card is unique, and super-creative. Aren't they pretty!!??

Thanks again ladies! : ) I hope you make lots more. This gets me excited for fall. Off to stitch... I have some postcards to make for a swap I signed up in. If you love to make postcards, try it out! There's a link to Postcard Cottage on my sidebar if you are interested.

This is a perfect project for my little sewing school students! Do you hand sew these? I can't imagine a machine needle would go through the cardboard very easily. What a wonderful way to upcycle scraps and cardboard and who would love to get one of these in the mail!
OMG! NO no - there is no cardboard! ; )
Quilted postcards are all fibre – 3 layers, like a quilt. The middle is extra firm interfacing... like a stiffened felt. The back is fabric too where you address it and stamp it. And yes – it’s all machine sewn with some occasional hand embellishments.
: )
The postcards are fantastic! I've not signed up for a swap yet. Someday.
I always like to hear about your postcards, they seem like a very approachable project, although it is still on my to do list. The ones from the class look good, I bet they all learned a lot!
i made one...going to make more...mine made it in one piece to the Kandahar airfield in Afghanistan just in time for my younger sister to have her canadian christmas tree for christmas...she was stationed there with the canadian military at the time...when ever she is deployed i always make a christmas tree of some kind for her and send...she told me she knew her tree had arrived because other people came to tell her she got the most amazing post card...they just throw all the mail on a table so all the personnel got to share that christmas tree..
Yep, the best part of our swap is that once you mail them, you get new ones back!! I have had so many people look at my / our swap group's postcards. I keep them out in the open in my living room, so that anyone who comes over can see them. So much fun!
Wonderful work, real works of art. I am greeting
Your postcards look fabulous!!! I just made my very first one last week using snippets of threads, tulle, a grid pattern and a bit of embroidery. It was so much fun :)
Think too about the fun thrill you're giving the postal people. Imagine how many people are handling them and then saying, "Hey, look at this!" to their co-workers. It's not a fun job, I would imagine; kind of a grind really, more likely and this would be a big perk. No wonder they get where they're going with such attention.
