French Knots on Postcards

I worked on the "It Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas" postcards last night.  Mail out deadline is Monday.  I've already received one!  So I thought I better get to work.  Here's my supplies - stiff felt, front & back fabrics all cut to 4x6 inches.  And some embellishments of course!

And as usual, I change my mind as I go along.  I ditched the beads and decided on trying French Knots for the first time.  I've seen it done and tried to repeat it from memory.  It took a few tries but I think I got it!

Aren't they cute!?  I'm putting them all over where there are berries on the fabric to add texture.  It's really easy.  Here's how you do it.  First pull up the embroidery floss.  You need a thicker thread to show off the loop.

Then you loop the thread around the needle three times with the tip of the needle pointed away from where it came up through the fabric.  This way the thread loops will build toward the needle's tip.

Then put the needle back in or near the spot it originally came out from.

Pull the thread back through...

all the way so it looks like this!

Cute as a button!
   Easy as Pie.

Now to finish up three more & mail them out!

I'm always worried my French knots will slip and then I will be left with this tail sticking out :( Yours look pretty secure!

Beautiful. You reminded me why I had an inkling to create some postcard quilts last month. I have some cute winter scene flannel, but then I was sidetracked by other creativity :). Maybe I'll get back to it.
