Journal Entry #2

Hello!  I'm blogging just because I miss you... not because I have anything to show you.  I did an all-text entry once before since starting this blog.  I personally prefer to have some eye candy when I read blogs.  For now, here's just me and my thoughts : ).  Think of it as a journal entry, like a dear diary post.  Here goes...

Wednesday, September 5th

I'm sitting by the open window with a cool fall breeze blowing through the room.  My big life transition is that for the first time ever since becoming a mother 13 years ago, I have all my kids in school full time.  Fortunately, each one of them is ecstatic about their classmates & teachers.  I can see the school doors from our front yard.  My husband has just relocated his business to a new & bigger location (ie: we haven't seen him all summer).  Summer was good though, and I'm happy that my kids come home every day from school for lunch.

As for me, I have a big year ahead.  It starts NOW.  I'm teaching 6 Monday classes at Creative House in Saskatoon, and two evening workshops at The Studio on Ninth this fall.  They include: Basic Thread painting, Dresdens, Free Motion Skill Builder, Teens Doodle with your Sewing Machine, and of course Creative Quilted Postcards : ).  2 I've done before, so the rest require a lot of preparation.

I'm speaking twice to our guild to present on the classes I took last winter with the scholarship money.  I'm very excited to share what I learned and give them a great big thank you for such fantastic opportunities.

Of course, I'll be making my art all year.  I have some new commissions and some big shows.  Big... as in lots & lots to stitch.  Big - as in travelling!  After another exhibit at the Centre Galleries this December, I will spend the rest of the winter & spring preparing twenty five pieces of art for a show in Winnipeg next May, as well as a bundle more for Gardenscape 2013.  TRUST ME - I will have lots to show you.  I can't wait!

I have so many ideas and aspirations: videos, making a book, applying for grants.  We'll see how far this year takes me.  If they don't happen for another year, that's cool.

For today, for right now, my sewing space is ONE HUGE DISASTER.  lol  I decided to rearrange some things.   Rearrange - as in pull out the contents of almost all the shelving, pull out nearly all the furniture, buy and build new and more practical furniture for my needs.  Needless to say it will take some serious elbow grease to get it all back together again.  It has to feel right.  You know?  I had a flash in my mind of some improvements, and now I'm trying to achieve that.  Transition.  What a mess.  I look forward to moving from transition to production and creation.

On super positive note, I LOVE this time of year.  The sun is lower in the sky and shines further into the rooms.  In the middle of winter, the sun is so low that it actually goes right though the house.  I love bathing in all that sunshine when it's winter outside.  : )

Yeah - I said winter. : )  Yeah - that was a smiley face.  I'm weird that way.

Well diary, thanks for listing.  I'll now close up this laptop and get back to creating a productive workspace.  Talk soon!

Nice post, Monika! You are going to be so busy, but doing things you love. I am looking forward to your thread painting class in November!

Well no wonder you have no pictures with all that demolition and rebuilding going on! Although it would be fun to see!
Also, too am very happy to see and feel fall in the air.
And I feel a kinship with someone who loves winter. I'm afraid to bring it up in most places!

Winter sunshine is my favourite as well, it is just so warming, like you are soaking in a big bathtub of sun. Way too hot here to sit outside in the sun in Summer here!
It sounds like you have an amazing year ahead of you full of new challenges and lots of fun stuff. It must be nice not to pack lunchboxes for the kids, here no one goes home for lunch, no matter how close they are to the school!

One of my pet peeves is people talking about hating winter. It got so bad, I just wouldn't listen anymore. I've always loved winter. There's plenty of places on the world without winter. Bye bye.

The sun shines right through my house when the sun is low too. On the other hand, in the summer, the early morning sun lights up my north porch. In the summer evening, the sun has come right around and shines into my north facing kitchen. Sun! It's so important, isn't it?

Your plan sounds full and satisfying. Now it boils down to one step at a time, a little every day. You have such great destinations ahead!

Winter is a good creative time for me. I don't mind it at all. I do know that I do appreciate all our seasons. There is a time for each one. I, too have been rearranging and reorganizing my sewing space. It is a big job but quite satisfying. See you in Winnipeg in May!

I love the change of seasons too. I love winter as well. We get that "low sun" too, but not as low as yours. That's cool that it shines all the way through your house! I grew up in the deep south, and exploring the sun as it changes seasons has been a thrill for me, especially since we moved even further north 6 years ago. It's so nice to have both kids in school all day. Ironically, that's when I actually QUIT my paying job LOL!
