Friday Finishes - The Canola Field!

Ever so slowly, and I mean really slowly, I have been working on this little piece.  I'm down with a cold, so it's stitch - sleep - stitch - sleep...  I've done a few canola fields so far, and this is my favorite.  I know.  I say that each time, but it's because I feel like I get better with each piece.  I certainly notice that each successive piece becomes easier to create and more enjoyable to make each time.  So here it is!

I have yet to finish the edge and mount it to frame, but the work is done and I just love it.  It's inspired by my first prairie photo ever...

2009

I snapped that picture from off the highway just south of Cochin.  I stood by the ditch, facing the Day's Beach market garden.  It was that first photo with the lush, lush ditch that inspired me to try to stitch out my first landscape.  You know... "nothing to look at" on the prairies.  Here's a whole bunch of nothing, I stitched in great detail ; )

By machine and by hand...

I think it even looks pretty cool sideways!  : ) Bear with me... still under the weather.  :(

I love sewing the prairies!  : )

I've been under the weather for nearly a month now (a succession of health things) so I have to tell you I really think this is beautiful. That rich saffrony yellow color against the bluey blues--it makes my heart sing!

Congratulations on another beautiful creation. And I hope you feel better soon!

It is so perfect! I have seen that field, or its sister many times and that is exactly how I remember it.

My idea of what a prairie looks like has just been changed lol
Its so pretty and obviously alot of stitching but the effect is lovely! Did you paint the background pic first then stitch over it?
Youve every right to be pleased with the way its turned out!

Outstanding!
You captured the photo perfectly.

The 'commenters' are so right. The colors are beautiful! I also like how you've created perspective with thread by changing to horizontal stitching at the horizon. and even the French knots seem to get smaller as they recede.

So amazing. I love canola fields. Was fortunate to see one in full bloom last year. I wouldn't say it's a whole lot of nothing - to me it's a whole lot of beauty to drink in to your heart's content. And you're captured it so nicely! :D

It is so beautiful! It reminds me of rape fields in North Yorkshire, England!

Aqui no Brasil não há frio tão intenso, mas, muda muito: de manhã, calor, de tarde muito frio; e estamos no verão. Não há saúde que aguente! Um grande abraço dessa sua admiradora. Julieta.

Love it! I feel like I could almost walk out into that field. You make me want to go look for all my old photos from the Dakotas and Kansas/Missouri

I like the sideways one :)
I've never seen a Conola field. The stitching makes it extra real. Super stitching!
