A Guessing Game Giveaway!

Here we go!

It's been a while since I've had a giveaway.  Remember back in the spring, Brandie Lynn Maslowski did an interview with me on Quilt Talk Radio?  I was all about Fibre Art Postcards.  She later organized a Canada Day swap with a Maple Leaf theme.  Since then, Brandy Lynn caught the bug big time and has organized more postcard swaps via her site!  : )  At the end of the summer, we submitted information to Quilter's Connection magazine.  Hers was an article about hosting a swap and the love of postcards.  Mine was project instructions for making and sending postcards.

It's here!  Hot off the press.

This entire Canadian quilting magazine issue is devoted to art / artfulness.  Here is a peek at Brandy Lynn's.  5 pages and lots of samples!

I was really surprised to see 5 more beautiful pages they printed for me as well!  Being in between studios, time was tight and resources were scarce.  I could not provide samples of my own.  So I asked the makers of a handful of my favourite postcards if I could send those in to be photographed. I have received these through online swaps.

I'm so glad I did!  So, congratulations (and thank you!!) to Sheila Munro in NS (5 images), Vicky Baker in AB (1 image), Cheryl Coville in ON (1 image), Judy McCrosky in SK (3 images), and Mary Anne Kingston in ON (2 images) for contributing to have your wonderful postcards make it into the pages of the magazine.  And it looks like all your names are in there too, spelled right.

Quilter's Connection Magazine - Winter 2014/2015   Pages 18-22

To celebrate - a give away!!  I have 2 prizes each of a 1 year DIGITAL subscription to this magazine, courtesy of Quilter's Connection.  I know not everyone prefers the digital version, but if you are like me, you have piles of magazines and still manage to spend most of your time on the computer. ; )  It's not so bad, and it's free!  All you need to do is say hello in the comments and give me a number.  The two closest guesses to how many postcards I have received from around the world will win the subscriptions.  ONE GUESS per entry.  Enter as often as you want.  (HAHA this should be fun!!)

You have until the end of this week to guess.  I'll announce the winner on Saturday, December 6th, 2014.  Good luck!  I guess I had better get counting...

Gorgeous Garments

Only a couple of weeks ago, as the new issue of Quilter's Connections magazine was about to go to print, Heather (the editor) emailed me.  It was a last minute thing.  She had a feature article done called "Gorgeous Garments" and after-the-fact, she came across photos of my prairie dress on the internet.  Heather wrote, "if you can send me a good jpeg, I'll add you!".  Yes ma'am!  ; )  How exciting!  With lightening speed I did just that.  With equal lightening speed,  it has already landed in my mailbox!

HOW DID THEY DO THAT?

Here it is!  It's in a spread of many beautiful garments.

(Side note:  See!!?  This is why you should all blog!)  Thank you so much QC magazine!  Look what else I found in the 'Scrap Bag' mail at the beginning of the magazine...

Sweet!  You can head over to The Needle & Thread Network to see what people are up to by clicking HERE.  If that isn't incentive to get blogging your stitches, I don't know what is.  ; )

So Much News, Sew Much New

Wow, what a week.  I wasn't sure if I should make ten little posts or one huge one.  I'll go with the latter and I'll keep it pretty.  : )  The auction went well, though it was weird.  It all closed at 7, but people kept bidding, including children.  It was quite the showdown.  In the end, we did our best to sort that all out, and the little quilt sold for three hundred dollars (to the preschool)!  The mom who bought it is hot on the trail to get me to make another for her son too.

it's tough to photograph quilts straight on.  you can't see any of the quilting.

What else... I got MORE mail!  Quilting Arts Magazine arrived, and YES, my postcard was in there with nine others.  Wowee!  Coincidentally, the cover is fibre art from a woman in Alberta, and the artist spotlight is on a woman in Ontario.  I thought that was pretty cool!  2 of the postcards are from Canada.

There's a note at the bottom of the page.  It's not over!  They want more.  The address below.

do it!  what are you waiting for?

Speaking of mail and postcards, one more came today.   It was for the "Beginning to Look a lot like Christmas" swap at PostCardCottage.  It's complete with real jingle bells!!  hahaha  I love it.  Thank you Carolyn M.  It was tucked in a plastic sleeve.  Good thing - a couple bells got loose.  Don't worry, I'll sew them back on.

thank you Carolyn M. from Georgia, USA!

And great news!  I got not one, not two, but THREE more issues of Quilter's Connection sent to me as a gift for submitting the pattern.  I was on my way to purchase one for the giveaway.  Well thanks Heather!  I'm bumping up the giveaway to include two winners.  Keep the hilarious comments coming on the last blogpost in order to enter.  Good luck!

Blog Giveaway!

I'm not actually giving away MY personal copy of Quilter's Connection.  No, no, no.  If you are chosen, you'll get your own.  : )  The other projects in the book include awesome applique, and redwork too!  They are all holiday themed, so I want to mail this out ASAP.

Here's what you need to do.  Leave a comment telling me one quirky fact about Canadians.  It can be real or imagined (hahaha).  The winner will be chosen by my random number generator.  Contest closes Wednesday midnight.  I'll announce the recipient on Thursday morning!

Good luck!

Pattern Pubished!

Oh finally I got it!  The Winter 2010 issue of Quilter's Connection Magazine was dropped into my mailbox this ffffrrrosty afternoon!  Brr.  I feel sorry for the woman delivering the mail!!  Gosh.  Maybe I'll leave a thermos out there for her and a note.

of course i'm excited!  but my nose froze to the plastic i think.

Here's the quilt that is in it.  It's my first pattern ever - very scary.  lol  It's a simple baby quilt that uses extra large sized strip piecing.

It's called "Hugs & Kisses" because when looked at the top after it was pieces, I saw x's and o's.  That's why I decided to quilt it with the word "love" continuously in circles.  I knew this thread would be perfect!

Thank you Quilter's Connection!  And by the way, IT WORKS.  There's been a couple new contacts / 'quilter connections' already from other Canadian quilters out in blogland!  : )   That is an unexpected bonus!  Next time I will mail the quilt.  I'm not sure why my photos turned out so grey? (note to self for next time...)

Off to the auction...
