Finished it Friday! x 4

I just finished up this (sweet) little set of four autumn sky/tree pictures in time for tomorrow's group show & sale at Agar's Corner.  They worked out just how I hoped they would!  When I was first gifted all those silk ribbons, the idea popped into my head to stitch leaves turning colors.  Here they are!

Autumn Birches #1

Autumn Birches #2

Autumn Birches #3

Autumn Birches #4

They look so pretty in the box-style chunky white frames I got.  I'm tempted to keep them for myself!  I made them to have some lower priced items at the show.  The silks are all hand dyed - including the sari silk I used for the trunks.  When they are displayed together, they remind me of looking out a window in the fall.  AAaaaaaaaah.  : )  I just can't stop taking photos of them!  : )  I'm enjoying the silk so darn much.

p.s.  All are stitch-signed by hand too...

Happy autumn!  If you are nearby, please stop by the show and say hello.  ; )

12, 13, & a Saturday Show & Sale

I was going to pick a winner for the silk ribbon coupon.  I had two numbers floating around in my head: 12 and 13.  I felt bad.   I can only chose one winner.  I finally decided on 12.  No - changed my mind.  13.  ARG!  So I went through the list of comments, and THANKFULLY #12 and #13 happen to be the same person!  Elle - I guess you are absolutely meant to win this draw!  Congratulations!  I will let Victoria at Ribbon Smyth know that you are the one to get the $20 coupon.  ENJOY!  As for the comments, you all sure gave me a lot to read!  I think everyone is enjoying peeking in on the comments.  Wow.  What a wealth of information.  Thank you so much!

That's all for today.  I'm finishing up some projects for the weekend group show & sale at Agar's Corner.  It looks like it will be a lovely fall weekend, so if you are around, come on out!  You can google directions and enjoy lunch in the restaraunt / guest house with family and friends.  Their menu is online.  It looks like a lovely setting.  I can't wait!

More Prairie Postcards - 'Wish You Were Here'

I am glad I numbered these from the beginning!  I am now up to 112 cards.  I had no idea I would make this many mini-art-quilts and there's no way I could come up with a different title for each.  All have my name & the # of the series on the backs.  : )  All are simple with one horizontal line.  All are different.  I suppose that's fascinating in and of itself!

I'm nearly ready for next weekend's group show.  Art at Agar's is 11am to 5pm, just east of Saskatoon on Saturday, September 21st only.  I still have a few meetings, classes to teach, and a grade 2 field trip to go to all this week, so I need to call it quits on creating and just wrap things up for now.  I'm going to head out and do a little pre-winter shopping this afternoon with my kids.  They all need new winter boots.  I know it's early - but once the snow flies, all the moms will flock to the stores & there will be nothing left in the sizes we need.  Yesterday day was absolutely sweltering hot.  I know we'll have a great selection of boots to look through! : )

talk soon,

Show Updates for 2013

There is so much going on in the next few months, it's unbelievable!  For those of you who don't see the blog heading / sign up via email I thought I would make a housekeeping post just for you.

9th Annual Members' Show & Sale

Crazy as it might sound, I have art hanging at The Mendel - our 'anchor' / historical gallery right on the river in Saskatoon.  It's a fundraiser where the commission taken by the gallery sales go to purchasing pieces for the permanent collection.  I put in my priciest piece - 'Make a Wish' - the one with 2000+ dandelions gone to seed, stitched out in French Knots.  I also have a piece with silk ribbon reeds & cattails called 'Good Night'.  It's the one with the yellow sky.  The show & sale runs from Friday, Sept 13th to Sunday, Oct 6th, 2013.

Make A Wish, 2013 (sideways photo of work in progress...)

There's another annual group show coming up VERY soon.  I've been hoping to be in this for three years now, but have never had enough work on hand to set up a booth.  My smaller work will be at this one including postcards.  It is in about ten days.  Unfortunately, my awesome painting friend Nicki Ault will not be around for this one.  She's been a recent 'regular' at this show.  Click to view larger...  driving directions from Saskatoon are on the poster.  There will be a range of different media there (Zentangle illustrations to pottery and everything in between!)

organized by Judy Wood each year

I've stocked more Prairie Postcards in the Craft Council's shop on Broadway in Saskatoon.

Dimensions 2013 comes to the gallery there (Affinity Gallery) soon as well!  The dates are November 15, 2013 to January 4, 2014.  The reception is at the end of the show on January 3rd.  It's a juried provincial biennial touring group exhibit of fine craft.  Whew - that's a mouthful.  'She's Blooming!' is in that one.  I saw the show in Regina this summer - I can't wait for it to be here!  It all feels surreal and terribly exciting.

detail of 'She's Blooming!', 2013 ...yes, sideways again.  : )

November 25 to December 28 is my 4th Annual solo show at The Centre Galleries.  Each year I have about a dozen+ threadpaintings for sale there.  This year will be more of the same... only better!  ; )

Winter Turns to Spring, 2013

Finally, good news!  We landed a title for the recent commission that is going to Ontario.  The new owners suggested it and I love it.

Steadfast, 2013.  Sold.

Much work to do to be ready for Agar's next week...  off & sewing!
