Leona Larson's art in Rosthern until October 31, 2012 |
The Station Arts Gallery is such a lovely space! This was my first time out there. The walls are white, the wood floors are honey-colored, and the paned windows are so big and open. There's a pretty cafe and the back doors are right onto the tracks. This building used to be the local train station back in the day.
a beautiful trio by Leona Larson, art quilter |
I first met Leona at the Saskatoon Quilter's Guild. I was new and shy, and everyone was busy as I sat by myself. One night I ended up sitting next to Leona - she is FUN and outgoing and great at telling humorous stories. : ) If you know her, I'm sure you are nodding your head in wild agreement. : ) I'm so glad I went out to her show. She's been doing this art for years. Believe it or not, she told me this is her FIRST local exhibit! She is wildly popular in B.C., and teaches a lot... so I was surprised to hear this. If you get a chance, google Rosthern and take a trip out. You won't be disappointed.
The building is easy to find... just look for the YARN BOMBING!! : ) The gallery director has no idea who did this, but we all giggled. I have my suspicions...

I took landscape quilting from her and really enjoyed her teaching style and the process. Looking at all her quilts is amazing - she has just a variety of sizes, colors and styles. I'm also surprised it is her first local solo show.

Is THAT what it is called? It's happening in Grande Prairie, Alberta, too, but I didn't know what it was or why. Kim in AB
