Poppy Postcards

I signed up for a Poppy Postcard swap... so if you did too, then these are most likely yours.  Please don't look!  : )  I started with three different backgrounds and quilted them with wavy free motion lines.  I also couched some parallel curved green yarns.  I had all this deep dark red batik and knew it would make lovely poppy petals!  I cut them all out in random shapes and placed them differently on each card.

I glued the petals where I wanted them and then thread painted them with a shiny crimson colored rayon.  I love rayon thread!

sweet! : )

I added a touch of black free motion stitching for the stamens, balling them up at the tips.  I did this in the dark, so excuse the crappy lighting.  I outlined every petal with a rust-red just to help define the edges a little better.  The last step was fusing on the back and then added the border stitching.  Aren't they great!?  I'm so proud of them... and I didn't even work from a photo this time.

I hope you enjoyed these random acts of stitching...

  9. These poppies are so beautiful... It's such an important symbol and you've really made them special.

PS - I saw your dress in person at the quilt show. On the blog, lovely - in person, spectacular, truly.
